Bottle Holder with Leather Sleeve by Werkstätte Carl Auböck
Austria - 1960s
This bottle holder by Werkstätten Carl Auböck combines a bent brass frame with a cylindrical leather sleeve, turning a practical carrying device into a compact sculptural form. The thick brass rod is shaped into a continuous oval base with two upright arms that hold the container in suspension, while the stitched leather cylinder forms a soft but stable cradle sized for a bottle.
The contrast between warm, patinated brass and textured natural leather reflects the Auböck workshop’s characteristic balance of utility and material refinement. The construction is simple but deliberate: the rigid geometric frame defines the outline, while the hand-stitched leather introduces tactility and a sense of craft, creating a tension between industrial precision and handmade finish typical of mid-century Viennese design.
Light patina to brass and minor wear to leather consistent with age and use. The leather part measures 10cm in diameter.
