Pair of Bilobo Glass Pendant for Flos by Afra & Tobia Scarpa

Italy, 1960s

The Bilobo model is defined by the tension between its softly contoured glass volume and the restrained geometry of its anodized aluminum fitting. The semi-opaque glass shade has an irregular, silica-rich surface that diffuses light into a muted, atmospheric glow while preserving a tactile, almost mineral character. Its double-lobed form reads as both organic and graphic, with a subtle symmetry that becomes more pronounced when suspended in space. At the top, the oval anodized aluminum mount introduces a technical counterpoint to the textured glass. The retractable attachment points are integrated with notable economy, allowing the shade to be held with minimal visual interruption and reinforcing the object’s sense of lightness and formal clarity. Presented here as a pair, the pendants operate both as functional lighting and as a concise example of Scarpa’s design language: materially sensitive, structurally intelligent, and quietly sculptural. The stated height refers to the glass shade including the suspension; the glass body itself is 30 cm long. Vintage condition with wear consistent with age; minor surface marks and age-related wear to fittings, commensurate with use and period. We also hold a single lamp of Bilobo pendants in a different glass pattern, presented separately in another listing.

Please note: Lamp should be fitted professionally in accordance to local requirements.
