Sculptural ceramic Dish from Vallauris
France, 1960s
This sculptural ceramic dish comes from Vallauris, France —a postwar center of studio pottery where utility objects were often treated as small, glazed landscapes. Shaped like an elongated leaf with a pierced handle, the form reads as both serving piece and shallow relief.
A rich, glossy chestnut-brown ground is animated by a dramatic band of emerald and turquoise glaze, flowing and crystallizing like a tide line or volcanic seam across the interior. Raised on small integrated feet, the dish sits slightly elevated, emphasizing its object-like presence.
Marked “Vallauris” on the underside. Vintage condition with light wear and minor surface marks consistent with age.
