Brass Ice Bucket with Cane Handle by Werkstätte Carl Auböck
Austria, 1960s
This ice bucket elevates barware to a small study in contrast: a reflective, tapering brass vessel paired with woven cane elements that temper the metal’s formality with warmth and touch. The handle is tightly wrapped, reading almost like a drawn line in space, while the matching tongs extend the same material language into an accompanying tool.
Typical of Auböck’s practice, the piece sits between utility and display—an object designed to be used, yet composed to hold its own as a sculptural accent. The brass surface acts as a shifting mirror, registering light and surroundings, while the woven base provides a grounded, tactile counterpoint.
Vintage condition with wear consistent with age; visible patina and surface marks to brass, minor wear to cane wrapping.
The measurements given apply to the ice bucket (height with the handle is 16cm). The tong measures 5cm-15cm-1,5cm.
