Brutalist Stone & Brass Coffee Table by Marcus Kingma
Netherlands 1980s
This sculptural coffee table by Marcus Kingma treats furniture as a composed surface rather than a neutral object. The square top is built from irregular fragments of natural stone set in resin, creating a richly textured “terrain” of rust, slate, and mineral greens. Precise brass and copper inlays—arcs and clustered ring motifs—cut through the geology like quiet diagrammatic marks, balancing raw materiality with measured geometry.
The top rests on a dark pedestal base, giving the heavy slab a poised, architectural presence. Signed “M. Kingma 1986 " within the composition. Vintage condition with minor wear and a natural patina consistent with age.
