Brutalistic Coffee Table by Artist and Sculptor Reinhart R. Wolke

Germany, 1960s

A striking and rare Brutalist coffee table by German artist and sculptor Reinhart Wolke (1934–2005), crafted in the 1960s. This exceptional studio pottery piece features a thick, heavy ceramic tabletop with an organic sunburst layout and radial segments. The table displays a deliberately rough, irregular sculpted rim with visible hollow architectural cavities and a textured ochre-brown surface. The center is highlighted by an intense, crystalline cobalt blue glaze that creates a powerful visual contrast. The massive top rests on clean, minimalistic solid wood legs. An authentic piece of 20th-century European art furniture, in good vintage condition with a beautiful patina and normal signs of age and use. Reinhart R. Wolke (1934–2005) was a prominent German sculptor, painter, and ceramicist. In 1963, he studied sculpture at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Robert Jacobsen and refined his clay craftsmanship under master potter Franz Eska. During the late 1960s, Wolke regularly exhibited at the Große Kunstausstellung in Munich's Haus der Kunst. In 1989, he relocated to Java, Indonesia, adopting the name Robiyan. His rare, 20th-century art furniture pieces are highly sought after by collectors for their raw Brutalist materiality, textured earth tones, and striking visual vitality.
