Chrome and Glass Countertop Étagère, attributed to Jacques Adnet
France, 1950s
Refined French mid-century étagère composed of a chrome-plated steel frame with three tiers of removable pressed-glass trays. The gridded, textured trays rest in arched metal supports, characteristic of French luxury metalwork of the 1940s–50s.
Its clean, architectural silhouette and mixed-material elegance closely relate to designs by Jacques Adnet and high-end French decorators of the period. The piece can be used in two ways—upright as a tiered étagère or laid flat as a low organizer—and the glass trays also make it suitable for serving or presenting food. A versatile and functional object with strong modernist appeal.
