Newly upholstered Pair of Space Age Lounge Chairs attributed to Gastone Rinaldi
Italy, 1970s
An exceptional and rare pair of Italian Space Age lounge chairs dating from the early 1970s. This model is closely related to Gastone Rinaldi’s Orsola design for Rima and is documented in the literature and in a previous Dorotheum auction. The Dorotheum example is dated 1970 and attributed to Gastone Rinaldi for Rima, Italy, with reference to G. Hatje, New Furniture. Neue Möbel, 1973, fig. 126.
The chairs feature generous fixed cushions with integrated leather tension straps and original chrome buckles. A continuous U-shaped chrome tubular frame forms the rear structure. The chairs have been newly upholstered in crimson-red aniline leather by Camo, while retaining their original structure, chrome frame and buckles.
