Pair of Dining Chairs by Albert Haberer for Hermann Fleiner

Germany - 1950s

This pair of dining chairs belongs to a post-war German tradition in which modest domestic furniture is treated as a problem of structure—how to achieve stability, comfort, and visual lightness with the fewest possible elements. Designed by Albert Haberer and manufactured by Hermann Fleiner, the chairs read as a quiet synthesis of workshop craft and modern restraint. Their character is concentrated in the back: slender spindles are gathered and bound by a leather connection, a detail that functions like a hinge and a brace at once—adding tensile strength while allowing a measured flexibility in use. The softly shaped wooden seats and gently splayed legs reinforce the sense of balance and ease, with the material left to speak through grain, wear, and touch. Vintage condition with signs of age and use; surface marks and patina consistent with their history.
