Translating californian details to german
It was a very challenging goal to translate the Los Angeles Details of the standard Kappe Houses to a german climate. Alexander Kahnt of the HTWK Leipzig played a main role to make this possible. He and his team were extremely supportive with finding solutions and keeping an eye on the design as well. Hours and hours with Finn Kappe and suggestions from Alexander Kahnt ended in a result that everyone of us felt satisfied with. We were able to reduce the standard walls around 50% in comparison with a standard wood house wall in Germany with using Slentex, a new insulation material by BASF with a high grade insulation value. To keep everything as delicate and elegant as possible we used only double glass and the structural engineer Michael Menz calculated also the beams a couple of times to keep all the dimensions as small as potential.
